Thermo-Mechanically Treated bars are popularly referred to as TMT bars. These bars are specially reinforced to have a tough exterior and a soft interior while being extremely strong and durable.
Their manufacturing process is extremely elaborate and is as follows:
- 1st step – Passing the steel wires through a rolling mill stands
- 2nd step – Rolled steel wires are passed through the Tempcore water cooling system using optimized water pressure. This leads to sudden quenching and the temperature fluctuation makes the outer layer of the steel tough and durable.
- 3rd step – The bars are subject to atmospheric cooling. This is done to stabilize the temperature difference between the outer layer and the inner core. This is a slow process.
- 4th step – The TMT bars turn into a ferrite-pearlite mass. The soft interior of the TMT bars related to great tensile strength and elongation quality making the bar extremely ductile. Also, TMT bars are corrosion resistant and can be easily welded because they are not subject to cold stress.
